Join us to celebrate the music of legendary
American jazz pianist and composer Horace Silver.
Few artists in history have been more influential in shaping mainstream jazz music than Horace Silver. Known for injecting funky, bluesy, soul-oriented fabric into his compositions, Silver moved jazz back into the toe-tapping, swinging structure that landed him the longest-running recording contract ever at the fabled Blue Note recording label. He was a founding member of the Jazz Messengers and his compositions spanned the Hard Bop era of the 1950's. Silver's soul-infused music has become part of the standard jazz repertoire for musicians worldwide for decades and he has 36 studio albums to his credit.
To bring this swinging music to life, The Swingbone Jazz Ensemble boasts a three-piece horn section, a four-piece rhythm section and features the sensational vocal stylings of Mike Cady. A native Detroiter who now calls Cleveland home, Cady has dazzled his audiences with his engaging, confident vocal style. He has been influenced by and compared to Eddie Jefferson and Teddy Harris, Jr. He has performed his electrifying night club act at Baker's Keyboard Lounge (the oldest remaining jazz club in the world), concert halls, and jazz and blues festivals in major cities including Miami, Chicago and Detroit.
